It’s Friday!

It’s been a great week, all told.  I’ve had moments where I felt like I was stuck in the mud and not getting anywhere, but then there were days, like yesterday, that I just seemed to get so much done.  I was blessed with two Etsy sales this week, and I’ve listed at least 9 new items.  I’m feeling pretty good about this week.  God is good, and I’m taking this moment to remember that “every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights.”  Thank You, Lord.  May my days and my work bring You honor and praise!

Speaking of honor…today is spotlight day!  Fridays are devoted to a Featured Friend.  And this week’s friend is Audrey Hotchkiss of Little Eye Designs

Audrey is a fellow Mainer, who has a passion for all things Vermont-ian.  She attended Massachusetts College of Art,  and has spent hours upon hours in the dark-room.

I first met Audrey at a local craft fair.  Actually, I was looking for her.  I had learned that she was going to be attending a fair that was close to my home.  Being new to Etsy and wanting to put live faces to screen names, I decided to visit.  She and a friend were busy setting up their booth, but Audrey was more than happy to welcome me to the Etsy Maine family and let me browse her wares as she struggled with a make-shift display stand made from two tripods, some colorful packing tape, and some twine.  (Sorry, Audrey, I had to share!  It’s a memory that brings a smile to my face:-)  Anyway, what I found on Audrey’s table were piles of painted, pictured, polished pop-bottle caps…tons of them!

Audrey takes some of her own photography, or pictures from various other places that take her fancy, and puts them into bottle caps, covers them with resin, and then makes them into amazing little trinkets like pins, barrettes, magnets, and jewelry.  I wanted to take about a dozen of them home with me, but, having only a couple of dollars in my wallet, I settled on one…a pin with a diagram from a photography text book…a perfect stocking stuffer for my own aspiring photographer and lovely daughter, Sara.  (By the way, Audrey, Sara loves her pin!  She’s got it attached to a wallet I made her).

What I didn’t get to see at that craft fair was some of Audrey’s full-sized photography.  And she’s got some amazing pieces!  Like this one…one of her newest Etsy listings.  I love the colors.  She’s got a great collection of prints, some framed, some as is.  They are definitely worth checking out.

Currently, Audrey and I are working with a handful of other Maine Etsians to try to organize a spring-time craft fair.  I’m looking forward to that…what fun it will be to meet more of our Etsy friends in person.  And, of course, it will be an opportunity for you to see some of Audrey’s work up close and personal.  I’ll be sure to let you know when and where, just as soon as we get all our little ducks in a row!

For now, enjoy Audrey’s colorful shop.  Who knows…maybe one of her creations will beg you to take it home!

Have a blessed weekend!

Yay! Featured Friend Friday!

I’m pretty excited about today’s Featured Friend, but before I get there, I’ve got a couple of things I want to mention.  Firstly…it is my daughter’s 18th birthday today (happy birthday, Sara!).  That’s pretty exciting…and a little scary, too, when it occurred to me the other day that my daughter is now as old as I was when my husband and I were first dating!

And secondly, a little update in regards to the internet-fast that I took on Tuesday of this week.  Of course, the following day (O.K., later that same evening:-) I checked my e-mail and my stats for the day.  And I’ve got to tell you…it’s the weirdest thing…I have absolutely NO STATS for my blog that day.  None.  This is now my twelfth day of blogging and Tuesday is the ONLY day that there are NO views listed.  Even last weekend when I didn’t post anything there were some of you who checked in anyway.  I’m chalking it up to a “God-thing” because I KNOW that at least two of you read my post that day (my two faithful followers…Mom and Carol!).  I told my husband about it and he reminded me, “I guess you just don’t need to know your stats for that day.”  He’s right.  And that blank day of stats is a good daily reminder to me that, as much as I do love the fact that folks read these posts, it’s really not important if, who, or how many do.

And now…drum roll, please…my Featured Friend!  Shanna Tice of ‘The Makings of Shanna Tice’.

I first became aware of Shanna and her shop when I got a package in the mail from her after Christmas.  Our Maine Team on Etsy decided to do a Secret Santa gift swap.  We all sent out a small gift to an unknowing team member (that was really fun, by the way!).   When I opened my package I found a lovely pair of pale blue (one of my favorite colors) crochet earings, and an amazing paper-&-felt bird pin.

Here’s what Shanna has to say about herself in her Etsy bio (I hope she doesn’t mind that I’m copying and pasting)…

“I love art! I am addicted to my crochet hook, but I regularly find myself daydreaming about many ways to make art and craft regularly. I couldn’t decide on a major while attending the Maine College of Art, which lead to a double major in Graphic Design and Photography. I couldn’t decide then which art field was most important to me, so don’t ask me to choose now!

I am a stay at home mom who does arts and crafts in every spare moment I have. I love my job and wouldn’t change things for the world!

There are many inspirations for my work like the art of Dr. Seuss, Cathy Nichols, Degas, folk art, and currently many Etsians as well.

All of my work is hand crafted with great care. I am a bit obsessive compulsive about making sure everything I make is as close to perfect as it can get. There is always much thought, attention to detail, and precision that goes into everything I make for either a customer, friend or family member.”

Two things brought Shanna to mind last night when I was trying to decide who my Featured Friend would be today.  The first is that pin she gave me.  She doesn’t know it, but it was perfect!  The day I received it I had just finished making a “Merry-Christmas-to-me” bag, and the colors of that bird were a perfect  accent.  I love it!  Here’s a picture of the whole bag so you can see just how amazing that little bird looks:

And the other thing that prompted me to feature Shanna was the sweet e-mail she sent me yesterday…I foresee another special friendship blooming!

So, I hope you’ll take some time today and visit Shanna’s shop….I wonder if she makes that owl hat in adult size?

Be blessed!

Featured Friend Friday!

O.K.  So I got a little distracted this morning.  I got caught up in organizing my materials (a.k.a.- pants, lots and lots of pants!..oh, and pockets, too!).  Last night my husband accidentally bought me a couple of stacking storage shelves.  Accidental because I was supposed to be buying them myself, but we got distracted talking to the cashier…a friend of my daughter’s who is getting married tomorrow :-)…and everything ended up getting rung up together.  Merry Christmas to me!

It actually feels pretty good to be going through my stuff, separating usable scraps from whole garments; cool, usable pockets from remnants that really just need to be thrown out…(but what if I need that scrap one day???).  But today isn’t about me…today is about “Featured Friend Friday!”

I thought it might be nice to give a little special attention to some extra special folks once in a while and I liked the alliteration of “Featured Friend Friday!,” so here it is!

This Friday’s friend is known on Etsy.com as “MimiRob”  and her shop can be found at http://www.mimirob.etsy.com.  MimiRob has also become a personal friend of mine…partly because she was my very-first-ever-non-related Etsy customer :-), but mostly because we’ve got that very special sisters-in-Christ bond.  I love that!  Anyway…

MimiRob’s shop specializes in “everything from alphabet pillows to aprons, from pantaloons to purses, from doll clothes to girls’ dresses…and much more!”  She started out primarily offering dolls clothes, but one thing led to another, and now she’s got an amazing array of very distinctive items.  I think my most favorite is her “Everything Apron.”

MimiRob’s Everything Apron

It’s got amazing pockets (I’m beginning to think I’ve got a pocket fetish), and is just looks so soft and flowy and girly.  I love it!

Well, it’s way past time for breakfast…I’m thinking of a cheese omelet with eggs fresh from my own chickens, yum!…Have a great day, and if you have a chance, please take a minute to check out MimiRob’s shop!

Be blessed!
