New job, new friends…another of the few things that is great about my job (I work with some pretty fantastic folks), and one of them, Kelly, likes to sew and knit and read and craft…just like me! 🙂
So the other day, during a random-thought moment, I told Kelly that we ought to make some felted acorns. “Sure!,” she said. So we Google-d “how to make felted acorns out of wool,” learned what we needed to do, and after work that night, went to our locally owned and operated yarn shop and bought some wool. The next morning, after my run, I collected a whole bunch of acorns from our yard and got ready for some fun!
A couple of nights later we got together at my house, did some more Google-ing, and found a great video to review the process. After a few trials and errors, we started making some pleasing progress:
Junior was home for the week, and he joined us, too!
Here’s what the finished product looks like:
Sweet, huh?! Now we just have to figure out what to do with a several dozen felted acorns!
I was at the fabric store yesterday to pick out some material for a special order for a friend of mine who is a sci-fi junkie like hubby and me. She asked for “pretty” fabric, and I complied, but then I saw a fabric that I just HAD to get for her…
She’s actually more of a Trekky than a Star Wars fan, but I just know she’ll love it!
O.K., guess I should stop messing around and get back to work….
“Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.” O.K., not really, but I keep thinking of that line in the movie. That and, “Luke, I am your father.” How about this one, “Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?” Or, “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.”
Oo, oo, or my most favorite from one of the newer episodes:
Guy at Bar :
“You wanna buy some death sticks?”
“You don’t want to sell me death sticks.”
Guy at Bar :
“I don’t want to sell you death sticks.”
“You want to go home and re-think your life.”
Guy at Bar :
“I want to go home and rethink my life.”
Somebody stop me!
Remember that peanut butter banana bread I made the other day? The one I was making to take to the Ronald McDonald House? Yeah, oh so yummy!
A small group of us from church go to the RMH once a month to make breakfast for the families who are staying there. We try to spend a little time with them, find out their stories, pray with them if they want, but mostly, bless them with a good morning meal and a friendly smile.
We’ve got our normal routine, and everyone pretty much as their ‘regular’ role. Like Hubby, for instance…he’s the chief home-fries maker (maybe I’ll have to share that recipe sometime… those are pretty yummy, too!). Me, I’m pretty much the behind-the-scene-do-whatever lady.
This week I got to scrape out the oven which had so much gunk stuck to the bottom that we weren’t allowed to use it for fear of setting off the smoke alarms!
We have a lot of fun though…like the mandatory dancing in the kitchen:
and the group hugs with silly faces:
Now, doesn’t that make you smile? 🙂
Well, I don’t want to say I’m running around “like a chicken with its head cut off” because I like my chickens…they’re cute. Stupid, but cute. And I like the fresh eggs they’re starting to lay……sorry, getting off track.
Anyway, have you ever had one of those days when you get up and start moseying through the morning routine when you suddenly realize that you have almost exactly zero time to spare for the next two days straight, at least? Please don’t leave me hanging here…
Why exactly I’m even on the computer right now is beyond me, I really should be washing the dishes before I head out the door…
I’ve been away from my sewing machine for a few days, but now that I’m back, I’m taking a little time to make some things for my kids. What do you think?
A wristlet clutch for Dollie…
And a coin purse, ’cause the one she was using broke.
And a pencil case for Bub, my artist.
Just so you know, Dollie and Bub are teenagers…19 and 17…and they LOVE Perry! But, hey, who doesn’t love Perry, right?
I’m in the process of making a bunch more wristlet clutches. Sorry, no Perry’s (foolish copywrite laws!).

O.K., can I just say…
I LOVE PICMONKEY!
I’ve talked about PicMonkey before, but I bring it up again because this nifty little site is jumping right in and taking over that photo-editing greatness that used to belong to Picnik.
They’ve added all sorts of fantastic and fun features…all for free! At least for now.
You know how it goes…they get you hooked, then attach a price tag. But this one is gonna be worth it. I’m already standing here with wallet in hand ready to sign up for the whole shebang!
I was having a little too much fun this morning with some of the different effects:
Exhibit A: my running shoe… plain, boring picture:
Exhibits B through G: SO MUCH FUN!
Exhibit B - Film Edge
Exhibit C - Daguerreotype
Exhibit D - Polaroid Frame
Exhibit E - Cinerama Letterbox
Exhibit F - combination Sepia & Frost
Exhibit G - umm...not sure. Was having too much fun and lost track!
See how fun!?
Go on! Give it a try! If you come up with something super cool, go and share it on my Facebook page, O.K?
Good morning! I thought I’d start our day off with a little bit of something to make us smile.
Treasury tool by Red Row Studio
I have to admit…although I’m not exactly sure why, I’ve been feeling kinda down in the dumps this week.
I dunno, maybe it’s because of slow sales in my Etsy shop…maybe it’s too much working and not enough playing…maybe I just need to give my house a good, deep spring-cleaning.
Whatever it is, these flowers DO help to make me smile. Especially since this treasury is on behalf of my dear friend, Mollie. At the beginning of this year, Mollie made a resolution to make at least one treasury for every day of this year; she calls it her 365 in 365 series. Anyway, for reasons that I won’t get into here, Mollie has a lame paw this week and the computer is off-limits. Several of us have rallied together to help keep her series going while she’s ‘on leave,’ and today was my turn. (Check out this treasury for the story behind Mollie’s paw).
So, what I really want to know is, what do you do to help perk up your mood when you’re down in the dumps?
Me, I think I’m going to crumple up my to-do list, only do enough chores so that I’m not walking around in a pig sty today, and then plonk myself in front of my sewing machine and work on whatever I feel like! No planning, no obligations, just goin’-with-the-flow relaxing creating!
Well, that, and popping back in here from time to time to see what you all are up to!
